Stourbridge Paving Company Limited helps a Smethwick School create a Memorial Haven

Case studies Inner

In a heartfelt community effort, Stourbridge Paving Company Limited has helped Uplands Manor Primary School in Smethwick create a peaceful memory garden, offering students and staff a tranquil space to reflect and remember loved ones.

The project began when Sandwell Council’s Social Value Team was approached by SCVO (Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations), after the school expressed its desire to build a memorial garden to honour a recently passed pupil, former staff members and the school’s therapy dog. The school envisioned a calm and peaceful space where the school community could find solace. However, they needed the expertise to bring their vision to life.

Bringing the vision to life with local expertise

When Sandwell Council’s Social Value Team reached out to local contractors for support, Stourbridge Paving Company stepped in, offering their time and skills to make the project a reality. The team undertook a range of landscaping tasks, including the installation of paving, fencing and seating, transforming the area into a peaceful haven centred around the school’s existing memory tree.

A lasting impact for the school community

Uplands Manor Primary School is now planning an official opening ceremony for the memory garden, which will involve the family of the pupil the garden was initially dedicated to. Sharon Lister, the school’s Strategic Business Director, expressed her gratitude by saying “We are incredibly thankful to SCVO, the Social Value Team, and Stourbridge Paving for their commitment to this project. Their hard work has been invaluable, and the garden now stands as a meaningful space for our community to reflect.”

Stourbridge Paving Company, a Dudley-based contractor, has previously worked on several notable community projects in Sandwell, demonstrating its commitment to social value and local impact.
