“The Red Cow Pub and Grill is one of the Black Country’s landmark pubs. For us, Sandwell is the only place to do business”
Established: 2010
Activities: Look for the red cow statue on Smethwick High Street! The Red Cow Pub and Grill is a family-run establishment serving traditional Indian mixed grills and curries at affordable prices.
Three things to know about the Red Cow:
- This Black Country pub has been open since 1930 and was one of the area’s first Desi pubs. Landlords Bera Mahli and Gamy Hayre took over the rundown Red Cow in 2010, and transformed it into the landmark Indian bar and grill it is today.
- The pub shows sports on its multiple screens, has two pool tables, a darts area and a modern jukebox.
- The Red Cow kitchen team prepares authentic Punjabi food using traditional methods such as cooking in a clay tandoor and using organic Punjabi herbs and spices.
And a fun fact about the Red Cow:
The original Red Cow Inn was further up Smethwick High Street towards where the Park Inn stands. The pub was rebuilt in 1937 but it is first recorded in a deed from 1706.
