Community spirit shines at Bearwood Road Allotments

Bearwood Road Allotments, a site run entirely by volunteer plot-holders, is celebrating a generous act that has made their grounds safer and more welcoming for everyone.

The group has been working hard to create a community plot – a shared space where people can meet, learn and enjoy growing their own produce. They hope it will become a place for new plot-holders to pick up tips, and for those with limited mobility to garden comfortably thanks to new raised beds.

Creating a safer, more accessible space

When the team realised they needed a level, paved route onto the site, they reached out for help. Their call was answered by James Taylor, Managing Director at Stourbridge Paving Ltd, who kindly offered to donate the paving slabs and complete the work free of charge.

The result is a smooth, well-built path that now makes access easier for everyone who visits the allotments.

“We are absolutely delighted,” said John Noons, Treasurer at Bearwood Road Allotments. “The paving work was beyond our abilities, and James and his team have done us proud. Their generosity is truly appreciated.”

The Association has extended its thanks to James and the Stourbridge Paving team for their support.

Karen, Social Value Officer, added, “This is a brilliant example of a local contractor supporting their community. James and his team have shown real social value by improving access and wellbeing for Sandwell residents. We’re really grateful for their help and commitment to making a positive difference.”
