Fuelling growth: Greystone Construction utilise SME grants to drive expansion

Case studies Inner

Greystone Construction Ltd accessed Business Growth West Midlands SME grants to help to expand its concrete pumping fleet, boosting operational efficiency and supporting local employment in West Bromwich.

Greystone Construction Ltd, based in West Bromwich, operates across the UK in civil engineering and building developments. In late 2023, the company faced challenges in tendering for projects due to the high costs of outsourcing concrete pumping services. This reliance not only impacted profit margins but also posed risks of project delays and penalties.

SME grant: a turning point

In February 2024, Greystone Construction was introduced to the SME grants offered by Business Growth West Midlands in Sandwell – Sandwell Business Growth Team. Seizing this opportunity, the company successfully applied for funding, which allowed the purchase of its second concrete pump. By May 2024, with further assistance from the grants, Greystone expanded its fleet further with a third pump. This strategic investment has significantly decreased the company’s dependency on third-party services, enabling smoother project execution and enhanced profitability.

Community and economic impact

The acquisition of the new pumps led to increased project efficiency and profitability, allowing Greystone to take on more contracts. The business created five new jobs within the Sandwell community, with projections to add 30 more positions in the coming six months. Greystone’s Managing Director, Clive Owen, praised the SME Grants, stating, “Two of the concrete pumps were purchased with the assistance of awarded SME Grants by the Sandwell Business Growth Team.”

With the immediate success of these investments, Greystone plans to expand its concrete pumping fleet further in the next 12 months, continuing to boost local employment and project success.
