Seddon Construction has demonstrated its commitment to social value and sustainability by supporting improvement works at West Smethwick Park as part of Sustainability Day on Wednesday 29 October. The activity reflects Seddon’s ongoing partnership with Sandwell Council and its dedication to giving back to the communities where it operates.
As part of the initiative, 17 volunteers from Seddon worked alongside Sandwell Council’s Parks and Green Spaces team to carry out essential maintenance and enhancement works across the park. The improvements will help ensure the space remains safe, accessible and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Supporting local places and wellbeing
The volunteering day was delivered in collaboration with Andrew Walker, Volunteer Development Manager for Sandwell Parks and Green Spaces, and his team. The work carried out contributes directly to the upkeep of an important community asset and supports wider sustainability and wellbeing goals across the borough.
Andrew Walker praised the contribution made by the team, saying:
“The Seddon team were absolutely brilliant. Their energy and commitment made a huge impact, and it’s great to see businesses getting involved in supporting our green spaces.”
Delivering meaningful social value
The project highlights how businesses can use social value commitments to create tangible benefits for local communities, improving shared spaces while bringing teams together around a common purpose.
Nicola Hodkinson, Owner and Director at Seddon, said:
“It was fantastic to be able to support Andrew and his team with the improvement works across the park. Volunteering days like this are a great way to bring teams together while making a positive difference in the communities where we operate. We are proud of what the team achieved in a single day and the lasting impact it will have.”
Working in partnership
This collaboration demonstrates the value of strong partnerships between businesses and the public sector in delivering outcomes that go beyond construction projects. By investing time and skills locally, Seddon has helped enhance a key green space while supporting Sandwell’s wider sustainability ambitions.
